College of Charleston, Charleston, SC
The College of Charleston, founded in 1770, is the nation’s oldest municipal college. Sensitive site planning, architectural detailing, streetscaping and muted material and color choices united the historic and contemporary facets of the campus. For his planning and landscape architectural design services, J.K. Tiller received both the Highest Award and the Honor Award for Excellence, presented by the American Society of Landscape Architects; the Urban Design Award, presented by Urban Design Magazine; and the National Landscape Award, presented by the American Association of Nurserymen. The project was also selected as one of the 20 most significant achievements in contemporary landscape architecture.
